Potenza in Myeongdong: Why Tip Selection Matters

Potenza in Myeongdong: Why Tip Selection Matters

— Dr. Youjoo Hwang, Director of Lijin Clinic

Hello,
I’m Dr. Youjoo Hwang, the director of Lijin Clinic in Myeongdong.

Since opening our clinic, one of the treatments that has consistently delivered high patient satisfaction—regardless of nationality, gender, or season—is Potenza.

Many patients who visit our clinic in Myeongdong are concerned about issues such as enlarged pores, acne scars, fine lines, and loss of skin elasticity. For these concerns, Potenza is often one of the treatments I recommend.

What Is Potenza?

Potenza is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device that delivers energy deep into the dermis using ultra-fine needles.

Rather than working only on the skin surface, Potenza stimulates the dermal layer where collagen is produced, helping trigger collagen regeneration and improve the skin structure from within.
Because of this mechanism, Potenza can be particularly effective for concerns related to the underlying structure of the skin, including:

✔️ enlarged pores
✔️ acne scars
✔️ fine wrinkles
✔️ reduced skin elasticity

Another major advantage of Potenza is that it offers 14 different types of treatment tips, allowing the procedure to be customized according to each patient’s skin condition and treatment goals.

This is why the choice of tip plays a critical role in the outcome of the treatment.

Different tips affect:

✔️ how deeply the energy is delivered
✔️ how strong the stimulation is
✔️ how widely the thermal energy spreads within the skin

If a tip that does not match the patient’s skin condition or treatment objective is used, the results may not be as effective as expected.

Today, I’d like to explain the invasive RF tips used with Potenza, in a way that is both easy to understand and medically accurate.

How Potenza Invasive RF Tips Work
- What Are Invasive Tips?

Invasive tips use microneedles that penetrate through the epidermis and reach the dermis, where radiofrequency energy is released.
In other words, the energy is delivered directly to the layer where collagen exists, rather than only affecting the surface of the skin.
This process helps stimulate the skin’s natural regenerative response, which may lead to improvements such as:

✔️ collagen regeneration
✔️ improvement of acne scars
✔️ reduction of enlarged pores
✔️ enhanced skin elasticity

Types of Potenza Invasive Tips
Commonly used pore tips and pumping tips both belong to the invasive tip category.
Among the pore tips, there are two main types: Non-insulated tips, Insulated tips

These tips differ in several ways, including:

✔️ whether they are designed mainly for energy delivery or product infusion
✔️ where the RF energy is emitted from the needle
✔️ how heat spreads within the tissue

Below are the three types of tips we commonly use at our clinic.

1. Pore Tip – Non-Insulated Tip (N Tip)
With a non-insulated tip, RF energy is emitted along the entire length of the needle.
This creates relatively strong stimulation, which can promote deeper skin regeneration.

Examples of N tips include: N16, N25, N49

Depending on the size of the pores and the depth of acne scars, our medical team typically selects N25 or N49.
The N tip focuses primarily on RF energy delivery, and the energy spreads laterally from the needle. This makes it particularly suitable for conditions that require stronger stimulation, such as:

✔️ deeper acne scars
✔️ significantly enlarged pores
✔️ After the procedure, redness, swelling, and a warm sensation may occur for about 3–4 days.

In some cases, pores may appear slightly more noticeable temporarily, which is part of the normal skin regeneration process.

2. Pore Tip – Insulated Tip (I Tip)
An insulated tip is designed so that RF energy is released only from the very tip of the needle.
This helps minimize damage to the epidermis while allowing energy to be delivered selectively to the dermis.

Insulated tips include: I16, I25, I49

At Lijin Clinic, we commonly use I25.
This tip is often chosen for concerns such as:

✔️ general pore improvement
✔️ fine wrinkles
✔️ mild skin laxity
✔️ uneven skin texture

Because epidermal damage is minimized, this option can also be suitable for patients with thinner or more sensitive skin.

The downtime is usually shorter, typically around 1–2 days.

3. Pumping Tip
The pumping tip works a little differently from the pore tips.
It creates microchannels in the skin and uses negative pressure to help deliver active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin.
This tip is particularly effective when used together with skin boosters, such as:

✔️ stem cell-based solutions
✔️ Rejuran
✔️ exosomes
✔️ Juvelook

When combined with these treatments, the pumping tip can help enhance skin regeneration, hydration, and overall skin glow.
It may also be a good alternative for patients who feel uncomfortable with traditional injection-based skin booster treatments.

Choosing the Right Tip Is Essential
Potenza treatment is not simply about choosing a tip.
A number of factors influence the final result, including:

✔️ needle depth
✔️ RF energy level
✔️ MHz settings
✔️ bipolar vs. monopolar mode
✔️ number of shots and treatment sessions

Even when the same device is used, the outcome can vary depending on the practitioner’s settings and the patient’s skin condition.
For this reason, before performing the treatment, it is important to carefully evaluate the patient’s skin condition and treatment goals, as well as the skin’s condition on that particular day.
Based on this assessment, the appropriate energy level and needle depth can be determined.
As with any medical procedure, temporary redness or warmth may occur depending on the individual’s skin type. It is always recommended to make treatment decisions after a thorough consultation with a medical professional.
Writing down the questions I frequently receive during consultations like this feels a bit new to me, and admittedly a little nerve-racking.
However, I hope to continue sharing more insights based on the questions patients often ask during real consultations.
Thank you for reading.
