Myeongdong Skin Botox | How It Differs from Regular Botox — Including Pore & Skin Texture Benefits

Hello,
I’m Dr. Youjoo Hwang,
Chief Director of Lijin Clinic in Myeongdong.

Did you know that Botox,
commonly known as a wrinkle treatment,
can also help improve skin texture
and the appearance of pores?

That approach is known as Skin Botox.

During consultations, many patients ask:
“How is Skin Botox different from regular Botox?”
“Can it really help with pores and overall skin quality?”

As interest in Skin Botox continues to grow,
today I’d like to explain the key differences
between traditional Botox and Skin Botox more clearly.

"What Is Skin Botox?"

The Botox most people are familiar with is
typically used to soften expression lines
or reduce the size of certain muscles for facial contouring.

Skin Botox, however, works differently.
Instead of targeting muscles directly,
small amounts are injected evenly across the skin
to improve the overall condition and quality of the skin itself.

"What’s the Difference Between Skin Botox and Regular Botox?"

The biggest difference between the two
lies in where the product works.

Injection Depth of Regular Botox (Left) vs. Skin Botox (Right)

As shown in the illustration:
Regular Botox is injected into
and acts on the muscles.

Skin Botox is injected more superficially,
within the dermal layer of the skin.

Because of this difference,
the results are also different.

Regular Botox is mainly used
to reduce dynamic wrinkles
by limiting muscle movement
or to slim enlarged muscles.

Skin Botox, on the other hand,
is more focused on improving:
✔️ enlarged pores
✔️ uneven skin texture
✔️ fine lines
✔️ overall skin smoothness

In simple terms:
“Botox that relaxes muscles” vs. “Botox that refines the skin.”

[The Changes Skin Botox Creates]

Skin Botox works by
softening the activity of sebaceous glands
and sweat glands while reducing subtle tension
across the skin surface,
helping the skin appear smoother and more balanced overall.

In practice,
the most common feedback patients give after treatment is simply:
“My skin looks better.”

After Skin Botox treatment (B, D), the appearance of pores
and skin texture shows overall improvement compared to before treatment (A, C).

Patients often notice:
✔️ less oiliness and shine
✔️ pores appearing less visible
✔️ smoother fine lines
✔️ more even skin texture
✔️ makeup applying more smoothly

Rather than dramatically changing one specific feature,
Skin Botox tends to create
a more refined and polished overall impression.

[Why Precision Matters in Skin Botox]

The naturalness and quality of Skin Botox
results depend heavily on
injection depth, dosage
and how precisely the product spreads within the skin.

If injected too deeply, it may affect the muscles.

If injected too superficially, the results may be limited.

That is why
a delicate, customized approach
based on skin thickness
and facial anatomy is important.

[Downtime & Duration]

Immediately after treatment,
small bumps or mild redness may appear
at the injection sites.

These are normal temporary reactions
and usually subside naturally within several hours to one day.

For the first 24–48 hours after treatment,
it is generally recommended
to avoid saunas, excessive heat exposure,
intense exercise, and strong facial massage.

Results usually begin to appear
gradually within 3–7 days
and stabilize around 2 weeks after treatment.

The effects typically last about 2–3 months,
although this varies from person to person.

If repeating the treatment,
we generally recommend
maintaining intervals of at least 3 months.

There is also one important consideration regarding resistance.
Skin Botox itself is not considered especially prone
to causing Botox resistance.

However,
because it is injected across a broader area of the face,
the total dosage used over time may increase with repeated treatments.

Botox resistance is more commonly associated with:
excessively frequent treatments
or high cumulative doses
which is why maintaining appropriate intervals and dosing is important.

[Who Is Skin Botox Best For?]

Skin Botox is well suited for those who want to improve:
✔️ enlarged pores
✔️ excess oiliness
✔️ uneven skin texture
✔️ fine lines
✔️overall skin quality

However, if the main concerns are

deep wrinkles, volume loss
or skin laxity,

Skin Botox alone
may not provide sufficient improvement,
and combination treatments
may be more appropriate.

In many cases,
Skin Botox is combined with treatments
such as to improve both the inner skin quality
and surface texture simultaneously.

Skin Botox is ultimately a treatment designed
to make the skin look smoother, more refined,
and more balanced.

Rather than dramatic changes,
it is better suited for those seeking
cleaner-looking skin,
smoother texture,
and naturally refreshed results.

--------------------

As the weather becomes warmer
and oil production increases during the summer months,
concerns such as enlarged pores
and excess shine often become more noticeable.

During this season,
approaches that help stabilize
and refine the overall skin condition
rather than creating overly dramatic changes
can become especially valuable.

I hope today’s article helped answer
some of your recent skin concerns.

Thank you for reading.
